Since 7th December has begun the first phase of .eu domain registration, an extension created by the European Union in order to encourage e-commerce and the Internet use within state members.
The handling of domains has been assigned by the European Commission to EURid consortium..eu domain could be requested by juridical people having their seat in one of the state members and natural people resident in a European country.
Registration plan, called Sunrise Period, has two phases: the first phase began on 7th December and is open to registered trademark holders at a national, international and community level having validity in one of the UE countries, to Public Authority and to products with Denomination of Protected Origin (DOP) or Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
The second phase, starting on 7th February 2006, includes registration of trade names, as new cars models, non-registered trademarks or artistic titles.
From April 7th, Sunrise Period deadline, could be registered generic names, according to the "first-come/first-served" rule, that is following the request arrival order. In order to have more possibilities to get its own domain from the beginning, just book it.
