Epson chooses Zope and Plone
Epson Electronics America (EEA) chose Zope and Plone for its web site.
In 1998 EEA, subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation, released its own web site, born as a sort of online brochure. The following year, because of the internet technological evolution, EEA's Executive Director for New Business Roy DaSilva decided to make the portal dynamic, in order to improve its availability and cut the maintenance costs of a static site, based on proprietary software.
When EEA's Board approved this project, raised a big question on what kind of technology should be used. After a deep analysis, DaSilva decided to choose Zope application server and Plone content management system, which turned to be great in meeting all the company requirements.
Thanks to this happy choice, which has been pushed by the American Navy adoption of Zope, today the portal is really easier to use. Moreover, because of the possibility to enter content directly on the web site, maintenance costs are very lower.
Epson says that, thanks to the eccellent result of its investment, its relationship with Open Source technology is going to continue.
